Sophie Brabenec grew up in St Kilda, and gets emotional talking about what Fitzroy Street means to her. It was vibing back in the day, she said. From an arcade that used to be here where we d hang out before school and check out the hot boys, to Leo s spaghetti bar where I used to have spaghetti with my family, the chemist I used to pick up my grandma s prescription from, the Prince of Wales [bar] for dollar pots and playing pool.
WINNIPEG From capacity limits to VLTs, Manitoba restaurants have mixed feelings about the loosened restrictions announced by the province. After serving only take-out for weeks, Pasquale s Italian Ristorante is now reopening. Joe Loschiavo, the owner, was waiting for the province to announce the restaurant could open at 50 per cent capacity. While it happened on Tuesday, it isn t all smiles. A little bit of everything. Happy, disappointed, frustrated, because again, for us to open at 50 percent capacity with single households, we will not fill up, said Loschiavo. The Manitoba Restaurant and Foodservices Association claims the province isn t addressing the root problem plaguing the industry.
WINNIPEG Officers with the Manitoba RCMP are investigating a house fire in Portage la Prairie, which they are calling suspicious. Around 3:10 a.m. on Tuesday, Mounties were called to the fire on 3rd Street NW. When they got to the scene, the house – a multi-unit structure with several units for different families - was completely engulfed in flames. Officers said everyone inside the house got out safely, noting it took crews more than three hours to extinguish the fire. Police said the investigation determined that the fire started on the porch, which had a lot of garbage on it before the fire.
